Almost Midnight OKC (AM-OKC) is a 48-hour short story writing contest for anyone in Oklahoma who would like a challenge. Because we don’t want price to be a barrier to competition, it only costs $5 to enter.
On the evening of Friday, October 9th, at 10:00 PM, you will receive three randomized elements:
A Genre
A setting, object, or situation
A character
Once you have received your randomized elements, you will have 48 hours to write the best short story you can come up with under 2,000 words which incorporates all three of the randomized elements. Stories should be submitted between 10:00 PM and midnight on Sunday, October 11th.
Winners will be featured in the Literati Press newsletter along with in-store announcements and may be included in Okra, the Journal of the Writer's Co-Op at Literati Press, with author permission. The best stories will also be eligible to be included in a future, follow-up round with prizes announced later.
Stories will be judged on quality and inclusion of the randomized elements—with prominently featured randomized elements receiving additional points.
If you have never been in a short story challenge, they can be a LOT of fun. You will always end up with something that surprises you. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Note: All stories belong to their authors and, if the author so chooses, can be shopped out to publications immediately. We request the right to first publication for winning stories (to be given by authors following announcement of the rankings). All stories are subject to our NO GENERATIVE A.I. policy which you can find on our Writers Co-Op page. This is a competition for humans, not robots.
