Who We Are
The Writers Co-op is a community of practicing storytellers, working within fiction, poetry, filmmaking, visual arts, music, and related fields. Our primary function is to foster community, intersectionality, and literary citizenship to help each other become better readers, writers, and storytellers by serving as each other’s champions and collaborators. Members get discounts on workshops, the bookshop, and access to exclusive programming and a co-working space. Co-op members also own shares in Literati Press — even after their membership expires.

Why Join the Co-op?
Writers want to share their words, but finding readers is challenging. Finding support is even harder. The Writers Co-op was formed to build a physical and online community for Oklahoma City writers of all types to discuss craft and learn about the publishing industry. We have Writing Groups that dig deeply into member works, we have channels on our Discord server dedicated to publishing, and we have a co-working space where writers can cobble their stories shoulder-to-shoulder.
Since founding in 2025, we’ve published chapbooks and a novella collection, launched an online literary journal, and hosted dozens of live events including workshops from industry professionals, live readings, and staged productions of original plays and screenplays. Several submissions that were introduced in Writing Groups have since been published by print and online literary journals across the country.
The Writers Co-op is where writers produce. We believe that our city’s reputation is built from the stories told about it, and we want to help ensure those stories are told by Oklahomans. This can help us change how the world feels about us, but more importantly, how we feel about ourselves. Whether your dream is to finally get that one book out into the world or to build a professional writing career, you will find a place in The Writers Co-op and Literati Press.
Being a member means owning a piece of The Writers Co-op and Literati Press. You get to help guide the major decisions we make in order to further our mission of strengthening the metro’s literary community.

Owning a Bookshop
As soon as you join The Writers Co-op, you own shares in both the Co-op and Literati Press Bookshop & Community. Owning a share is similar to owning a stock for a company. If the shop makes money, your share is worth more. If we lose money, your share is worth less. If we end the year with an overall profit, then members will be cut checks for their portion of the profit. If the bookshop loses money, members don’t owe any money to cover the loss, but they can claim the loss on their taxes for a tax benefit.
Each share also gets you a single vote. Those shares belong to you even if you are no longer active, meaning you can still vote in elections if you pause or cancel your membership. All Co-op members vote in officer and initiative elections and help guide the direction of this literary community.
